Welcome!

With a growing climbing community and a commitment to outdoor recreation, Helena, Montana, is ripe for an in-town gathering place for climbers of all ages and abilities.

The Helena Parks department is interested in hosting an artificial rock climbing boulder in Centennial Park. While the City of Helena will provide space, logistical support,
and some matching funds, the cost of construction and installation (approximately $25,000) must primarily come from external sources. The Helena Boulder Initiative is a group of volunteers dedicated to raising the funds to undertake this construction. Contact us by email.

The good news: State Fund has grants available for community projects.  But the grant needs a cash match. We currently have close to $4,000 in pledges and cash--we need to raise another $1,000 in order to be able to apply for the $5,000 grant.

If you are planning to contribute boulder initiative, now is the time.

Have a Beer, Support the Boulder Initiative

Bring all your friends to the Blackfoot River Brewery at 66 South Park Avenue on Monday, February 13 from 5-7 and show your support for the Helena Boulder Initiative.

The Brewery will donate $1 for every pint sold.

On a less cheerful note, Helena climbers are mourning the loss of the climbing wall at the Broadwater Athletic Club. We hope someone will open a new indoor climbing gym soon--and look forward to climbing outside in Centennial Park come good weather and successful fundraising!

Helena Boulder Initiative Fundraiser Kickoff

To inspire current and future climbers, the Helena Recreation Foundation invites the public to The Hub this Sunday for a presentation by Luke Evans on his ice climbing adventures in Alaska.  Luke was recently published in Alpinist magazine and is a presenter the following week at Bozeman’s 15th Annual Ice Climbing Festival where they’ll be celebrating 40 years of ice climbing in North America.  We’ll also be showing a new climbing film, The Scene, which takes a comprehensive look into four major epicenters of hard climbing and the characters who define them by their relentless commitment to the sport.

The presentation and film are free, while donations are much appreciated for the Helena Boulder Project. After all, what better way to start a climbing adventure than on a boulder in our own backyard?
